<p>Targ war ab 1972 im <a href="SRI_International" title="SRI International">Stanford Research Institute</a> tätig, wo er mit Harold E. Puthoff zu <a href="Parapsychologie" title="Parapsychologie">Parapsychologie</a> forschte und sie zusammen den Begriff „remote viewing“, zu Deutsch <a href="Fernwahrnehmung" title="Fernwahrnehmung">Fernwahrnehmung</a>, prägten.
